ENERGY MANAGEMENT SURVEYS FOR NORTH CAROLINA ELECTRIC COOPERATIVES
|
The Audit Services Program offered free building energy surveys for buildings receiving electric service from an
Electric Member Corporation (EMC). The objectives of the Audit Services Program were to improve the
economic well-being of existing industrial and commercial customers as well as to attract new power customers.
The program was offered through the local EMC and administered consisted of 27 Electric Member
Corporations which provide electricity within 96 of North Carolina's 100 counties.
Sud Associates was the primary engineering consultant to the Audit Services Program. We developed the
survey and procedures used in the Audit Services energy survey. In the course of working for 20 of the 27
EMCs, we performed more than 200 surveys on industrial facilities, restaurants, motels, nursing homes,
automobile dealerships, hospitals, schools, unique facilities (ski slopes, crushers, etc.) and warehouses.
The major components of an Audit Services Energy Management Survey are:
- A computer analysis of a year's worth of electric and other fuel bills.
- On-site inspection of the lighting, heating, cooling, ventilating, process, and water heating systems.
- Computer calculations to estimate energy cost savings.
- A customized report summarizing the survey observations and estimates.
In addition to energy surveys, Audit Services offered technical, engineering, and financial services to existing
and potential EMC customers. In addition, we also performed a variety of one-of-a-kind analysis and design
projects for Audit Services on a short notice, as-needed basis. These have included electrical load
management using standby emergency generators, fuel comparisons, estimating energy consumption patterns
for new buildings, etc.
